India stars KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, according to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, are being sent early to Australia and will play a game for India A against Australia A. After India's loss against New Zealand in a Test series at home, the Rohit Sharma-led side is under big scrutiny. In the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, India need to win four matches in Australia to not be reliant on other teams' results for qualifying for next year's World Test Championship final. In that context, the sudden decision to send KL Rahul and Dhriv Jurel early may be perceived as a desperate move.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir finds himself in the line of fire after New Zealand's unprecedented 3-0 win in the subcontinent. India's home legacy was torn into pieces by the Kiwis, prompting many to question Gambhir's coaching philosophy. Some tough questions have been asked, not just from Gambhir but also from India captain Rohit Sharma, since the series concluded. India great Sunil Gavaskar feels even harder questions could be asked if India don't go on to do well against Australia in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Buckingham Palace has issued an announcement about the Queen's health.
Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has lamented the decision taken by Team India to cancel a scheduled practice match in Australia between the senior team and India A. In fact, India's senior team are not scheduled to play a single warm-up game in Australia before they set off on a five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Following India's poor batting display in the recently-concluded home series against New Zealand, Gavaskar has called for common sense to prevail, and for some warm-up matches to be put in place for the India players.
Australian pacer Scott Boland wants to extend the barren run of KL Rahul and keep him under pressure ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when he faces the Indian batter in the four-day A-Team match in Melbourne from Thursday. Rahul along with wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel flew early to Australia, and will appear for India A in the second four-day game at the MCG. “I was lucky to bowl to him in a Test over in India a couple of years ago but it'll be nice to play against him in our backyard,” Boland was quoted saying by ESPNCricinfo.
Criticism continues to pour in thick and heavy in the wake of Team India's 0-3 Test series defeat against New Zealand. Be it Rohit Sharma's captaincy, Gautam Gambhir's insistence on turning tracks, middle-order's fragile show, or Virat Kohli's barren run of form, many factors have potentially contributed to India's worst home series loss in the longest format in history. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, also a sharp critic of the Indian team, feels the fact that Virat and Rohit skipped the Duleep Trophy also contributed a fair bit to the results the team produced against the Kiwis.
