Nothing quite captures the fizziness of two 13-year-olds on their way to fill their boots with bubble tea. Or boba tea, if you’re being authentic. Or just boba, if you’re being super authentic and cool about it, which, of course, these two are.
ISTANBUL: Women in Turkiye braved an official ban on an International Women’s Day march in Istanbul, demonstrating for about two hours before police used tear gas to disperse remaining protesters and detained several people. Thousands converged on a central neighborhood Wednesday for a protest that combined women’s rights with the staggering toll of the deadly quake that hit Turkiye and Syria a month ago. Organizers had been forbidden — for the second straight year — from marching down the popular Istiklal pedestrian avenue in Turkiye’s biggest city where Women’s Day marches were held since 2003. Police blocked demonstrators’ access to the avenue. An Associated Press journalist saw officers detain at least 30 people and use tear gas after the group ended their demonstration at 2100 local time (1800 GMT). Local authorities banned the march, saying the area was not an authorized demonstration site. They also claimed the march could “provoke” segments of Turkish society, lead to verbal or physical attacks, be misused by terror groups and threaten national security — as well as curtailing freedom of movement in the cultural and tourist area. Metro stations in the vicinity were closed.
At least 70 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and 13 Israelis have died in attacks since the start of 2023. Asked if a third Intifada is under way, former Mossad chief Yatom said: "I don't think that anyone can answer precisely," but insisted Israel will continue to fight terrorism "without any limitation" and make sure its "people will be safe wherever they go, including the West Bank".

Nostalgia and food don’t always mix. I’m not sure who’s necessarily looking back with rose-tinted specs at the well-done steaks of the Berni Inn (with a glass of orange juice coming in as a ‘starter’), for example.
Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities have also targeted online content creators. Activists there are warning about a worsening human rights situation overall. A group of major NGOs are urging the UN Human Rights Council to pressure Egypt's government to stop what they call a "brutal crackdown" on civil society. However, what's different this time is that the Israeli response has come not from the Israeli Defense Forces, but from Israeli civilians – settlers in the West Bank who took it upon themselves to seek revenge for the murder of two of their own by heading to a Palestinian village to torch homes and cars.
