Afghanistan's Taliban Government Bans 'Violent' Mixed Martial Arts

Afghanistan's Taliban government has banned mixed martial arts (MMA), believing it to be un-Islamic, its sports authority said in a statement on Wednesday. The order was passed down by Afghanistan's morality police in the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice after an investigation into the sport's compliance with Islamic law, or sharia, the statement and local media said. "It was found that the sport is problematic with respect to sharia and it has many aspects which are contradictory to the teachings of Islam," the Taliban government sports authority said in a statement sent to AFP.

No Rashid Khan As Hashmatullah Announced Afghanistan Skipper For Test vs New Zealand

All-rounder Rashid Khan is a notable omission in Afghanistan's 20-member preliminary squad for the one-off Test against New Zealand, to be played in Greater Noida next month. Rashid's absence from the September 9-13 contest comes as a surprise as he has been Afghanistan's highest wicket-taker in the format, having taken 34 wickets in five Tests at an average of 22.35, including four fifers. He played his last Test for Afghanistan in 2021 against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi, where he took 11 wickets.

Afghanistan Fans Get To Watch Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi On Home Soil In Shpageeza Cricket League

ICC Finally Reveals Ratings For T20 World Cup 2024 Pitches In New York. They Are...

The ICC match referees have gone soft on the much-maligned pitches used for the New York leg of the T20 World Cup with six of the eight games, including the India versus Pakistan contest, getting a "satisfactory" rating.
