LONDON: Young Afghan women footballers on Tuesday enjoyed a one-sided drubbing over a select team of British female MPs — but the score was secondary to their freedom to play at all. Back home, in recent days, the Taliban have reverted to misogynistic policies. Girls have once again been thrown out of secondary schools, and women told they cannot board planes without a male relative.
Rashid Khan got off to a winning start in IPL 2022 as his new team Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants in their first ever match in the league. Rashid was at his economical best as he finished with figures of 1/27 from his 4 overs, despite some late hitting from Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni.
Female footballers who fled Afghanistan last year played against a women’s team of MPs in London on Monday as part of an Amnesty International initiative.
At last there are a few rays of sunshine to help raise Joe Cokanasiga’s spirits. No one in English rugby has been on a more intense emotional road these past three years but finally light is visible at the end of a dispiritingly dark tunnel. “Everything happens for a reason,” murmurs the big man softly. “I’m a big believer in that. My time will come.”

With Rajasthan Royals (RR) set to begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign on Tuesday, Jos Buttler will be aiming to play a talismanic role against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The wicketkeeper-batter has always found it hard to perform against SRH but managed to break the jinx in IPL 2021. Last season, his knock of 124 runs against SRH was his first score of 30+ in nine innings against the franchise. In his previous eight innings against the team, the Englishman aggregated 73 runs at a strike rate of 94.81. The primary reason for the 31-year-old's failure against SRH was the presence of Rashid Khan, who has taken his wicket thrice which is the most by a bowler in IPL. In general, he has also found it difficult to play against leg spinners.
