Young fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has replaced the injured Shaheen Afridi in Pakistan's squad for the Asia Cup T20 tournament in the UAE that begins this week.
Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has replaced the injured Shaheen Shah Afridi for the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The 22-year-old Hasnain returned to cricket in June after remodelling his bowling action. He was suspended in February after being called by umpires during the BBL.
MELBOURNE : Australia's Big Bash League has unveiled 12 marquee players for the first round of Sunday's draft, including 10 who are likely to exit the tournament before the halfway stage to play in other Twenty20 leagues that will run concurrently in January.
Shakib Al Hasan played down his team's chances at the Asia Cup and said his goal for the tournament is to prepare for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Bangladesh will travel to the UAE for the upcoming Asia Cup on the back of a poor run in the shortest format of the game and with Shakib given another chance at the captaincy after Mahmudullah's three-year reign finished earlier this year. Shakib's side is drawn in Group B against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka for the six-team tournament that commences on August 27 and the star all-rounder is keeping his expectations low for the showcase event.
Young uncapped left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka was handed a maiden call-up as five-time champions Sri Lanka on Saturday announced an 18-member team for the Asia Cup, beginning in Dubai next week. Besides the the 21-year-old Madushanka, the squad, led by regular skipper Dasun Shanaka, also includes Ashen Bandara, who last represented Sri Lanka in July 2021 in a T20I against India. Charith Asalanka will be the vice-captain of the team, which will begin its Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan in the tournament opener at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 27.
The much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup is just around the corner. The arch-rivals will square off on August 28 in Dubai in a group-stage clash. Having nerves heading into the contest is quite normal for players but India skipper Rohit Sharma is trying to ensure to create a calm atmosphere within the group. Ahead of the game, Rohit said that the contest is definitely a high-pressure game but at the end of the day, Pakistan are "just another opposition".
