Actor Nazanin Boniadi asks world to back Iran women protests

ABU DHABI: Actor Nazanin Boniadi on Wednesday urged the world to back the protests in her native Iran calling for women’s rights and political change, saying despots fear nothing “more than a free and politically active woman.” Speaking on the sidelines of the Forbes 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi, Boniadi told The Associated Press that she hopes people will sign a petition she’s supporting accusing Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and Iran of committing “gender apartheid” with their policies targeting women. “These systems of oppressing women, of dehumanizing women, are based on strengthening and keeping these entrenched systems of power in place,” she said.

UN: Afghanistan is world’s most repressive country for women

ISLAMABAD: Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the country has become the most repressive in the world for women and girls, deprived of many of their basic rights, the United Nations said Wednesday. In a statement released on the International Women’s Day, the UN mission said that Afghanistan’s new rulers have shown an almost “singular focus on imposing rules that leave most women and girls effectively trapped in their homes.” Despite initial promises of a more moderate stance, the Taliban have imposed harsh measures since seizing power in August 2021 as US and NATO forces were in the final weeks of their pullout from Afghanistan after two decades of war.

"Match Winner In Both Departments": AB De Villiers Picks Greatest T20 Player. It's Not Virat Kohli Or Chris Gayle

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has named Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan as the greatest player in the history of T20 cricket. Rashid, who rose to fame after his performances in the Indian Premier League, has been a vital cog in Afghanistan's rise in international cricket. On being asked to name the greatest T20 player of all-time, De Villiers picked Rashid ahead of his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammates, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, hailing the 24-year-old as a "match-winner" for his all-round contribution.
