Iga Swiatek refused to take victory at the French Open for granted despite romping to a third Rome title when sweeping aside Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-3 in Saturday's final. World number one Swiatek will be red-hot favourite to successfully defend her Roland Garros crown afer comfortably prevailing on the clay against second-ranked Sabalenka. In front of a packed centre court crowd Swiatek became the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 to win on the clay surface at Madrid and Rome in the same season. She can join Williams in a European capital city hat-trick if she wins her fourth French Open title, and third in a row, with the clay-court Grand Slam starting in Paris on May 26. 

Tyson Fury was undecided about a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk after losing his unbeaten record in one of the biggest fights in boxing history on Sunday. Britain's Fury dominated the early rounds of their undisputed heavyweight clash but lost a split decision to the Ukrainian maestro, who nearly sent him to the canvas in the ninth round. It was the only loss in 36 professional bouts for Fury, who was contesting the first heavyweight unification fight since 1999 and the first in the four-belt era. There was a rematch clause in the contract for the fight, which took place in the early hours in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and saw Usyk crowned as undisputed heavyweight champion. Afterwards Fury, who gave up his WBC belt to Usyk who already held the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, said he would discuss the potential rematch, loosely scheduled for October, with his wife and children. 

The 'finisher' MS Dhoni couldn't deliver with the bat as Royal Challengers Bengaluru came up against Chennai Super Kings in the virtual knockout match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Saturday. Dhoni, up against RCB's Yash Dayal, needed to help CSK get 17 runs from the last over. The veteran wicket-keeper batter started on the brightest note possible, hitting the first ball of the 20th over for a six, leaving just 11 runs to be scored from the final 5 balls. However, Dhoni's six did more damage to CSK than RCB, as revealed by Dinesh Karthik after the conclusion of the match.

Jurgen Klopp has joined social media to ensure his "love affair" with Liverpool does not end when he leaves the "incredible" club after Sunday's emotional farewell game against Wolves. Klopp will bring the curtain down on his remarkable nine-year reign when the final whistle blows at Anfield. The German established himself as a Liverpool legend by winning the team's first Premier League title for 30 years in 2020. Jaismine Lamboria will compete in the second Olympic boxing qualifiers in Thailand beginning May 24 after India was forced to surrender the women's 57kg category quota for the Paris Games owing to holder Parveen Hooda's international suspension for three whereabout failures in 12 months. Hooda was handed a 22-month suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Friday.
